FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What can we expect?  How does it work?

The process can look slightly different based on the modality and clientele (i.e. EFT for couples vs. Theraplay for families, etc.).  To see more about each process, review your desired services on the "Services" tab on the top menu.  Generally speaking, the process looks like 1.) intake, 2.) assessment, 3.) feedback session (where applicable) and then 4.) ongoing therapy.  The reason we do it this way is that we do not take a "take two and call me in the morning approach" where we apply generally supportive counseling skills and "hope it works."  We conduct high-quality assessment to ensure that your goals, you or those close to you are understood, and that we start from an informed place together.

What are counseling sessions like?

Sessions are generally one-hour, though longer sessions are available upon request.  Your counselor will act as a process consultant, tracking the important details of how you interact, deepening your understanding of and experience of emotional states, and sharing those with your partner.  We have dedicated space for family interventions on a huge memory foam mat, a play therapy room with sandtray, an inviting space for adults next to a fireplace with insert, and a comfortable waiting room with restroom.

What is the frequency of sessions, and for how long?

Most evidenced based practices are typically 10-15 sessions, but many of our clientele continue therapy for long after that time span.  This is due to our approach to therapy that we liken to an elementary school number line (-10 to 0 to 10).  Oftentimes people consider therapy to attempt to move from a negative experience back to a neutral, stable state (i.e. 0).  But, most recognize that there is an entire other end of growth and development available for those that want to pursue it together!  We have the skill to stabilize and restore functioning, but we also have the skill to move the needle on already healthy individuals and systems to establish a new, improved baseline of functioning in relating to yourself and/or others.

What age ranges do you see?

We have the ability to see all ages, and we typically see clientele that are relationally oriented, such as family, child, adolescent, couples, or an adult relating to parts of themselves.

Do you offer online counseling via telehealth?

Yes, we are happy to connect with you online.  We do recommend, where possible, at least beginning the process in person before switching to an online only format.  But, if circumstances prevent that, or if you just prefer telehealth, then completing all of your counseling sessions online is completely acceptable as well, and also just as effective.

Do you have suggestions for how to help pay for sessions?

Yes!  We are able accept medical accounts such as a Health Spending Account (HSA) and Flex Spending Account (FSA).  We also partner with many local churches who offset the cost of our services with their respective care or benevolence ministry funds.  Also, some colleges or graduate schools also offset the cost for students to attend sessions with us.

Do you offer events, retreats, or seminars?

Yes!  View our events page here.  We have the ability to train on various topics not listed.  So, if you have an idea or request, feel free to use the contact form and submit your request or call us directly!
